BYU Rugby Team National Champions

Any rugby fans out there? BYU's rugby team went to Stanford this weekend (May 3, 2009) and beat UC Berekley for the national championship. BYU has played Cal five straight years now for the national championship, the last four going to Cal who has won 19 national championships in rugby. BUT THIS WAS THE YEAR OF THE COUGAR!

Hail To The Sea Gulls

Remember the story about the sea gulls that came to the rescue of the early Utah pioneer Saints' crops in 1848 and ate all the crickets (I wonder how Jiminy Cricket felt about that?) which were devouring the crops? One wonders from whence came all those crickets! (By the way, they were not actual crickets but of the katydid family.) But the real question I want to ask is how all those sea gulls showed up? I wonder if anyone saw them coming in a horde or did they just drift into town one by one? I mean, sea gulls live by the ocean...or at least all the non-Utah cousins do. So when these birds were arriving to feast on crickets, did any one see them? I mean...did someone in Wendover see them or in Las Vegas or Battle Mountain or Reno? I doubt if the sea gulls arrived by train or mule team. FedEx was not delivering in those days. Someone must have seen them winging their way into Utah. Although ornithologists suggest that the gull was indigenous to the Great Salt Lake. Humm....the California Gull was/is indigenous to Utah. What I want to know is: Does anyone out there know of any recorded accounts of pioneer California Sea Gulls gliding their wagon train to Utah? If so, let's hear about it! Have a great day.

Does The Gay Community Have A legimate Complaint?

It is no secret that I do not like unkind, aggressive, assaultive, deceitful methods used to obtain an end or gain a goal. That said, let us consider whether the gay community has any truth to their complaints or are they just whining control freaks.

The Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy is a think tank dedicated to the field of sexual orientation law and public policy located at the UCLA Law School. There are some interesting pieces of research found on the Williams Institute Site which offer answers to our question. Answers like: Same-sex couples pay more in taxes and receive fewer benefits than do married different-sex couples; This fact sheet outlines some of the ways in which same-sex couples are treated inequality by the federal government. Poverty is at least as common in the LGB population as among heterosexual people and their families; 99.3% of all US Counties have gay people living in them.

So, since the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual community are our brothers and sisters and if YOU believe in equal rights (which was and is a foundation commitment of the United States of America), then we need to put our money where our mouth is and act upon our beliefs....that we are all equal. There should be no 'haves' and 'have nots.',
AND....in case you are thinking about becoming upset, I am not suggesting we reverse the vote on Prop 8 in California. I am suggesting that we remember we are all God's children. I do not believe he appreciates the manner in which we sometimes treat our gay brothers and sisters.
