At General Conference, afternoon session, April 6, 2008 Elder M. Russell Ballard spoke about uplifting families, especially supporting and uplifting young mothers in their role. Many comments were made. His words were inspired in both a spiritual sense as well as a psychological sense. Re-read his comments or listen to the mp3 file below and make an effort to better implement them into the life of your efforts and family. His simple suggestions have powerful psychological potential.
Church leadership has long counseled membership to be prepared for the Second Coming, which will include, as predicted in scripture, famine, pestilence, wars and rumors of war, brother turning against brother, people become faint of heart, and even the elect being deceived. But if you are not convinced spiritually, what about some so called "scientific" evidence (or at least evidence that emanates from a worldly perspective).
The ancient Mayan Civilization, with it calendar which highly more accurate than the one we use, predicted many future events based upon their calendar which many experts believe correspond with world events (and, of course, others disagree). Of interest here is the Mayan prediction that the world with end, that doomsday will occur, that Apocalypse will occur on December 12, 2012. Of course, it is to be remembered that numerous dates have been set as the end of the world date, and we are still here. However, combine all we know and are told, whether the date is soon or far off, the question still remains:
Are You Prepared?
Here are some interesting links regarding the Mayan prediction and calendar:
1. Calendars through the Ages site showing basic information about how the Mayan calendar is constructed, or what are the components of the calendar.
2. USA Today article asking the question: Does Maya calendar predict 2012 apocalypse? Also contains general information and links.
3. Wikipedia article which is and excellent description of the calendar and it component pieces as well as social, spiritual, astrological information.
4. Mayan Calendar Tools site which allows the user to convert Mayan time to Gregorian time as well as numerous other conversions using the Mayan calendar.
5. Mayan Calendars and Prophecies site contains much of the information above, but also has additional information.
6. Earthcode site illustrating that the Mayans did not view time as we now view it. We see time as a straight line; Mayans viewed time as cyclic, with major event repeating themselves.
7. History Channel looks at Mayan Civilization and calendar which predicts the December 21, 2012 end of the world. Or if you prefer, a History Channel more general look at Doomsday 2012: The End of Days.
Whatever you believe, Know that there is a big event coming which will change the way we live. When that event will arrive and what it will be exactly is up for speculation.
Again the question: Are You Prepared?
