Power: The World Wants Power!

Would you not agree that much of what we see in people is an effort to gain some sot of power? It strikes me that ALL the efforts of mankind, no matter what the effort may be, have as their goal to obtain and/or maintain power...or control...or influence...or domination...or strength...or authority...or.......

Do you agree with my statement? Does this thought upset you? Do you believe There are many things done by people werein the goal is not power or influence? Please name just one! In a way, I am suggesting that everything done is an attempt to manipulate. Now I know I have some of you in disagreement. Manipulation is typically viewed as an unkind, and therefore wrong, behavior. Just like seeking power is viewed as somehow wrong. So....are these wrong? Are these evil?

I think not! Certainly it is easy to understand that tyrants, despost, criminals, unscrupulous politicians, and anyone trying to take personal advantage is attempting to use power and influence in a bad way. But what about teachers, parents, religious leaders, police, honest politicians, and others who are attempting to use power or have an influence for good? I suggest that almost every behavior is a use or attempted use of power, whether for good or for ill.

The real issue is not whether seeking power and influence is bad, but rather, what is the intent and hoped outcome of the influence!
